* Net Metering (Grid-Tied)
Net metering uses a PV system as a supplement to your regular utility power. The PV system is connected to the power grid. During the day more power is produced by the solar panels than is typically consumed, thus producing a surplus of energy. This surplus energy is fed into the power grid, which causes the electric meter on the house to wind backwards. The power grid then becomes the back-up power supply.
* Off-the-Grid
The PV system is an independant power system not connected to the power grid. During the day when there is less consumption of energy, the PV system produces and stores electricity in a battery bank. Overnight and during cloudy days, electrical demands draw power off the PV-charged battery bank.
* Back-Up Power Supply A PV system can provide a reliable back-up power supply for security during power grid failures by charging a battery bank. When the power grid fails, your electrical demand automatically draws off your battery bank. This system can be combined with a Net Metering System.
